I am a big fan of using social media as part of my professional learning network. One of my favorite social media platforms for professional development is Twitter. Click on the graphic below to view my Twitter feed @michelestork or follow me on Twitter. Every semester I tweet to the hashtags of the courses I'm teaching. For example, if I'm teaching EME5053, then I tweet to the hashtag #eme5053. I also use the hashtag #storkteach. On a more personal note, I have been a "techie" as long as I can remember. When I first started my teaching career, it was as a Certified Cisco Networking Academy Instructor and then teaching technical certification courses for both Novell and Microsoft network operating systems at a community college in Massachusetts. For ten years I was a K-12 administrator, responsible for district web services including the school district's website which contained over 100K pages of information! I love web development and design and consider all things technology-related interesting. However, my passion is education. I am a strong advocate of educational equality and believe absolutely in the C.K. Chesteron quote: "Education is simply the soul of a society as it passes from one generation to another". My teaching philosophy stems from my early background as an instructor in an urban, post-secondary career school. My philosophy is also influenced by my dissertation research on social justice issues in education. Both of those experiences exposed me to a large number of students from non-English speaking homes who also struggled with poverty. I follow current public education reform issues closely and believe that all students should be given equitable access to a quality education!
